In ‘An Introduction To E-Cigarettes’ we have focused on multiple key point that you will need to start your vaping journey.

Why choose vaping?

Today, millions of people in the UK have stopped smoking with the help of e-cigarettes. Everyday this number continues to grow as it does worldwide. There is sufficient evidence that shows vaping can be an effective way to help manage your nicotine cravings. It is also noted that vaping will cost you up to 90% less than smoking.

Simply put, e-cigarettes do not burn tobacco and won’t produce tar or carbon monoxide, which are two of the most damaging elements in tobacco smoke. While nicotine is the addictive substance in cigarettes, it’s relatively harmless. All the harm from smoking comes from the thousands of chemicals in tobacco, many of these are toxic when burnt.

In simple terms, what is an e-cigarette?

An electronic cigarette is a battery-operated device that emits a vaporised solution for you to inhale. All e-cigarettes are comprised of 2 main components, a mod (battery) and a tank (atomiser) which holds your chosen e-liquid.

The liquid in an e-cigarette is heated to the point it becomes a vapour, like when water becomes steam at its boiling point. When pressing the activation button, the battery triggers the heating element (coil) which is wrapped around the wicking material (cotton). The cotton, saturated with your e-liquid, evaporates once it’s activated. Lastly the vapour is drawn up through the mouthpiece and you’re vaping!

So how does it work?

What is e-liquid?

E-liquid typically contains nicotine, propylene glycol (PG) and vegetable glycerine (VG). Food grade flavourings are then added to these ingredients which create a wide range of flavours for you to choose between.

Tell me about the battery?

Batteries used in e-cigarettes are mainly lithium ion and rechargeable. The same as are widely used in other devices like laptops, mobile phones, and wireless devices.

However, disposable vapes have recently become a vaping trend, and with these once the e-liquid is used up the whole e-cigarette is discarded.

Some devices, depending on the type of power you require use either 1 or 2 external batteries, known by their dimensions 18650 and 21700. These are common in sub-ohm devices and advanced kits. Other devices use an integrated single strong rechargeable battery. These are prevalent in Mouth-To-Lung (MTL) devices and starter kits

Battery technology has been continually developing over the last few years. Creating better efficiency, longer operating hours and greater safety than before.

What is a mod?

The battery mod is a bigger, slightly bulkier, and more advanced vaping device including a few more features. These are more powerful with a higher capacity and greater functionality.

Mods are designed to create enhanced taste and deliver a greater sensation and are usually recommended for advanced vapers.

What is this coil and how often do I need to change it?

The coil is the heart of the device, usually a cylindrical metal shape with a resistor wire inside that heats up when pressed by the activation button on the device. Usually there is a wicking material (cotton) running through the coil which is saturated with your e-liquid. The wick feeds e-liquid to the coil.

Usually when the coil is due to be replaced you might get an unpleasant burnt taste, weak flavour and/or gurgling noise. Other signs may be that your tank is leaking or producing low vapour that will only get worse with time. This is when you know you should replace your coil.

Having said that, after recent advances in vaping technology, newer coils tend to last longer so it’s common to see a coil to last up to 15 days if used properly.

What is a pod kit I keep hearing about?

A pod kit is usually a lightweight, portable device which uses refillable or prefilled pods instead of the standard vape tank. These are a great choice for

using nic salts, making them a great choice for anyone looking to quit smoking or someone who just wants a smart, discrete device.
